He'll let her go. Nothing more to say for the moment, after all. Instead, he has some thinking to do.

a day or so after their talk on the deck

I have your rapier, your parrying dagger, and appropriate accoutrements for both whenever you have a minute.

[The response comes an hour or so later:]

Got nothing but minutes right now, Jonny. I'm in the gym.

I can head down there or you're welcome here, if you'd like something to drink.

[ladyfrownsalot]

Gym's fine. Thanks.

On my way, then.

[ And she'll get to see him walk in, somewhat awkwardly carrying what she'd asked for mostly under one arm but sort of balancing it with the other. ]

Cassandra is working a bag when he comes in, her gloved fists meeting the leather over and over in sharp, quick blows, occasionally broken by a kick. When she sees movement in her peripheral vision, she pauses.

And smirks.

"You can just hold a scabbard in your hand like a regular person, you know that, right?"

[epistemological]

"No, I didn't," he says primly, "forgive me my lack of knowledge regarding the details of semi-archaic weaponry."

But he's making his way to a bench to put it all down on.

Cassandra just rolls her eyes at the description 'semi-archaic'. It's not like she's never heard anything similar from Varian. Anyway, Jon's the one who apparently hasn't mastered holding a tube.

She picks up the rapier, pulling it smoothly from the scabbard, weighing the blade in her hand.

"....this is nice. Good balance. Thanks."

"I did specify it was for you," he says with a shrug, "so I suppose it was picked appropriately. But you're welcome."

He'll settle on the bench beside it, content to watch her checking things over.

She sheaths the rapier, hangs the scabbard on her belt, and then goes about inspecting the dagger. It, too, earns a nod of approval.

It's not the Moon Stone, not the sense of invulnerability that came with it, but it's something. It's a familiar weight, and she feels safer for having it.

"I'll do you a favor and try not to use these," she drawls.

He snorts and shakes his head.

"I didn't get them for you for decoration. If you need to use them, use them." He huffs a little. "If I thought you were an axe murderer, I wouldn't have gotten them."

She smirks.

"If I was a really committed axe murderer, wouldn't a sword be pretty safe?"

[epistemological]

"If you were that committed, you'd just stick the sword on a branch or something and damn the consequences," he says with a snort.

[ladyfrownsalot]

Cassandra just scoffs and reaches for the bottle of water she's been using.

"Sticking a sword to a branch does not make it an axe."

[epistemological]

"What would it make it then?"

He gestures with one hand.

"Other than a sword on a stick. Branch. Whatever."

[ladyfrownsalot]

"It'd be a sword stuck to a branch," she says, "and I don't think any self-respecting axe murderer is going to be into that. Can you hold your own in a fight, Jonny?"

[epistemological]

There is a point where he blinks. And then another where he laughs and shakes his head.

"No. No, not even a little. The only thing I can do is handle being stabbed, and even then my pain tolerance is awful." He considers. "And running. I'm very good at running."

[ladyfrownsalot]

"You sound like a lot of people I've met," she says, wryly. "Ever wanted to get any better? At defending yourself, not being stabbed."

[epistemological]

There's a pause.

"...you think I could?"

[ladyfrownsalot]

Cassandra shrugs.

"I think you could try. You're not always going to have your spooky powers here, so."

The port proved that beyond much doubt.

[epistemological]

"...I don't rely on them that much," he says with a snort. A moment before- "But I suppose it couldn't hurt."

[ladyfrownsalot]

"I mean, it will," she drawls. "At first. But you've already said you're pretty good at taking a hit."

[epistemological]

“…in the sense that the damage instantly heals, my pain tolerance is shit, quite frankly.”

[ladyfrownsalot]

"I can pull my punches," she says lightly, shrugging. "I'm not a total monster."

But also pain is a great teacher etc etc.
